Carlingford Lough, said to be the most beautiful
inlet on the Irish east coast, is a natural
destination for visitors from the sea and land.
Now well known for its quality restaurants, the
village of Carlingford itself is equidistant from
Belfast and Dublin, little more than an hour away
from each capital and, on the sea, less than a day's
sail.
The famed Carlingford oyster has been reintroduced
and mussel farming supplies the restaurants of
continental Europe.
The village is ancient boasting the castle of the English
King John, brother of Richard the Lion heart. There are many architectural and archaeological artifacts and buildings. The lough is stunningly magnificent, bordered to the north by the famed Mountains of Mourne and to the south by the Cooley Mountains, renowned for the legends of far-off times. Carlingford, the Beautiful, where being a stranger is but a fleeting experience, awaits the pleasure of your company. |
